Two weekends ago 8
students from our school went to Lisbon to do the PET (Preliminary English
Test) exam. This exam is part of a series of exams designed by the University
of Cambridge to certify students’ knowledge and fluency level in everyday
communication. It is an internationally recognised exam and is about two thirds
of the way to the First Certificate Exam.
On Saturday 19th November, we met at the school and arrived at the Tiara hotel at about 9 o’clock. The first part of the exam was the reading and writing and lasted for one and a half hours. We had a short break and snack, and then we did the listening exam from 12 o’clock to 12:40. We left Lisbon and arrived back at school at 1:30 pm.

On Sunday 20th
November, we had to get up even earlier as we had to be at school at 7:30. This
time, we went to the British Council to do the speaking exam. Each student’s
exam only takes 15 minutes, but we had to wait for each other, so we only ended
at 10 o’clock.
After the exam we
had a lovely breakfast at a café in Lisbon and took the school bus back home.
We noticed that
most of the other candidates were older than us. We are all between 11 and 13
years old. We were a little bit nervous but we think that the exam went well.
We feel happy to have this opportunity at this age. And we are relieved that
it’s over. Now we’re anxious for the results that will only come out on the 22nd
of December.
We had a
fantastic experience and we hope to repeat it soon.
