Paul is the Best!

Once upon a time, there was a boy called Paul. He was studying the origins of Christmas. When he arrived home, he decided do some research about Christmas.
At school, he and his friends showed their research to the teacher. Paul’s work was the best, because he saw a video about Christmas.
His teacher gave him a present. After that, his teacher phoned Paul’s mum to tell her that he was the best in the class.
When he arrived home, his parents and his family decided to give him a surprise because they were very happy with Paul.
At Christmas, he saw Santa Claus and he thought it was true. When he saw his mum, he asked her: “Is it true, mum? Did I see Santa Claus!” She answered:  “Yes you did, Paul. He gave you presents.”
Since that day, Paul thinks Santa Claus is real.

Lost Dog

It was Tommy’s birthday and his parents gave him a dog.
“You are so cool! I will call you Nicolas.”
And Nicolas had a lot of fun with Tommy. But when Claire, Tommy’s sister, saw the dog by himself, she put him outside the house, because she didn’t like Nicolas that much.
When Tommy got up and didn’t see his dog, he became sad and started to cry. She became sad too because she didn’t like to see Tommy upset. Suddenly Claire realized the damage she had done. Nicolas ran away and went for a walk but he didn’t eat anything.
On Christmas Eve, Nicolas returned and Tommy said: “This is a Christmas miracle!”
Claire was happy because her brother was happy too. And they had a great Christmas with Nicolas.

A Magical Christmas Night

Once upon a time there was a little boy called Michael. He had a poor family, but he was happy with everything he had. It was Christmas Eve and he was very excited.
This year he wanted to stay awake to see Santa Claus. Michael waited but Santa never came. Suddenly he heard a noise, it was very loud and strange, like a bomb. He went outside and he couldn´t believe who it was, it was Santa! He fell from his sleigh and the presents were all over the floor. It was a big mess! The boy helped Santa but he was unconscious. Michael needed to do something, and fast. So he organized the presents and put them on the sleigh with Santa. He decided that this year he wanted to deliver the presents to the children all over the world. No child could be left out. He started to fly. The delivery was going well until he stopped at the last house, it looked like the child was awake and he was in trouble. No one could see him delivering presents.
Everyone wanted to see Santa. He hid behind the Christmas tree and put the presents under it. Another child saw that there was someone behind the tree and… suddenly Santa appeared and threw the boy some dust and he fell asleep. Michael was very happy for two different reasons: No one saw him, and above all he saw Santa! He finally stopped at his house and went to sleep. He dreamed about that night until the next morning. When he started to open the presents, there was a little one that said: to Michael with love from Santa. Michael didn´t understand at first, but he finally got it. There were only two people in the entire world that understood its meaning and they were Michael and Santa.

Minerva English Academy students did the PET exam

Two weekends ago 8 students from our school went to Lisbon to do the PET (Preliminary English Test) exam. This exam is part of a series of exams designed by the University of Cambridge to certify students’ knowledge and fluency level in everyday communication. It is an internationally recognised exam and is about two thirds of the way to the First Certificate Exam.
On Saturday 19th November, we met at the school and arrived at the Tiara hotel at about 9 o’clock. The first part of the exam was the reading and writing and lasted for one and a half hours. We had a short break and snack, and then we did the listening exam from 12 o’clock to 12:40. We left Lisbon and arrived back at school at 1:30 pm.
On Sunday 20th November, we had to get up even earlier as we had to be at school at 7:30. This time, we went to the British Council to do the speaking exam. Each student’s exam only takes 15 minutes, but we had to wait for each other, so we only ended at 10 o’clock.
After the exam we had a lovely breakfast at a café in Lisbon and took the school bus back home.
We noticed that most of the other candidates were older than us. We are all between 11 and 13 years old. We were a little bit nervous but we think that the exam went well. We feel happy to have this opportunity at this age. And we are relieved that it’s over. Now we’re anxious for the results that will only come out on the 22nd of December.
We had a fantastic experience and we hope to repeat it soon.
